Workable is a young person led campaign with two aims:
1. Engage with local Cornish employers, getting them to think about the way they recruit, work with and develop young people living with a long-term health condition or disabilities.
2. Engage with young people living in Cornwall with a health condition or disability who are not engaged with support services to help them move into sustained and supported employment.
There are over 11,000 individuals living in the UK with a disability, yet by the time a young person with a disability is age 26, they are 4 times less likely to be in employment.
Workable is trying to change this, by highlighting the disparity in employment rates and acknowledging that just because someone has a disability, does not mean that they aren’t Work-able.
The campaign is led by a group of young people who are part of an EU and Big Lottery Funded programme called Game Changer – aimed at 15-24-year olds living in Cornwall who are not in education or employment.
